bucktown 5k

Sunday, the 5th brought the Bucktown 5k! Alice, Devon, Patrick, and I participated. Alice and I woke up early and drove over to dev and patrick’s where we met them about 7:30am. A little before 8 we headed over to the start line. The race was slated to start at 8:30. It was a brisk morning, but not too terribly chilly. A jacket and running shorts were fine attire. Since the marathon was only a week away, alice and I were taking it easy. So d, p, and the two of us agreed on a place for brunch. We determined Toast would be an excellent place though we were warned that it would most likely have a decent wait. So be it. D & p finished before us and headed on over to put our name on the list. They met amy and her coworkers over there where they were also brunching. After alice and I finished (under 40 mins), we headed over. It was about a 20 or so min wait, but SO worthwhile. Omg, I may just move in to this place. It was delicious. While we were waiting I was expressing my love for this time of year and all things pumpkin and was talking about wilma’s patio on balboa and their pumpkin pancakes. I knew pancakes were in my future, but I was really hoping they would be pumpkin! And lo and behold, the special pancake of the day was…. Pumpkin! It came with the best whipped cream ever – a hint of pumpkin and maybe some cinnamon. I also got a side of poached eggs and some potatoes that I shared. Yes, I was a piggy, but I figured I was entitled what with the marathon so soon and all! I ate well past full b/c the pancakes were delicious. After brunch, we headed back to d&p’s and chatted for a bit. Then it was time to head home. What a fun morning!
