home sweet home part 3
Shopping day part two: the next day we were going to tackle shoes. And shoes we did! We went to the walking store first and when we walked in we were neither greeted nor acknowledged even though we were looking around for help. Other people were being greeted, but not us. It was to the point where we almost walked out, but then another sales guy walked in from getting starbucks and asked if we needed help and I said as a matter of fact we do but we’ve been here awhile and no one is helping us and in fact we’ve been totally ignored. He promptly helped us. Here’s the tricky thing: that comfort thing? Yeah, it goes right along with the feet too. Mom does not believe in any type of pain nor does she believe in breaking in shoes so we are obviously complete opposites. Problem #2 is that she has big feet (thanks again mom!) and at a wide size 11 with bunions, shoes are a problem. So this guy brought out a total of probably 30 boxes of shoes while we were there and mom ended up getting 2 pairs. That was considered a success. Bother pairs have Velcro. Ugh, I know… but they fit and are better looking than other stuff she owns! From there we went to Nordstrom where we found even more success and so did I! I got her to even buy ‘pretty’ shoes! And by pretty I mean we ended up with 5 (maybe 6) pairs of stuart weitzmans. We got mom a pair of heels (super small – she does not do heels) for her new dress, a pair of gladiator sandals (so trendy! But really, they aren’t the horrendous trendy ones – they are very cute and are not very gladiatory), and a cute pair of brown sandals and I think maybe one more pair. I found a couple pairs on sale and she said I could get a pair, but I truly couldn’t decide. Mom was getting very tired by this point so she all of a sudden blurted out “oh, just get them both!” both the sales lady and I were all, really!??! And then she says, “no I’m just kidding you can’t have either!” in her I’m kidding voice which I get but the poor sales lady looked a little disappointed, but then she quickly said – just kidding. Get them both. So I got two pairs of 4.5 inch heels – one in bright blue with open toes and a bow above the toes and the other open toed black sequiny sparkly ones. So fun! As we were finishing up, mom called dad to see about dinner and asked what he was doing. When he said working, she replied “oh good cause we’re going to need your paycheck!” and with that we both busted up in laughter. We were punch drunk tired at this point and found that really really funny.
