go cubs go, part 2!

i bought trish's boss' tickets again for the game on wednesday night. two nights in a row of baseball. weds night alice, devon, kyle and me were headed to the game. we decided to meet up at my house beforehand and then head over together. alice, kyle and i walked up to the park together (about half a mile) and met devon there. she ended up having to work later than she had expected and so we left her ticket at will call. as we walked over, we were a little nervous about the weather - both alice and devon had announced that they didn't want to go if it was raining. and it had been raining off and on all day. and the weather guy was predicting super bad thunderstorms for sometime between 7-10pm. great! perfect timing for a game supposedly starting at 7:05! as we walked over, it started to sprinkle and we kept telling alice that it wasn't really raining.... and look! it looked clear up ahead! somehow we convinced her to continue walking and going to the game with us. we got to our seats in the 4th tier. i'd never really noticed before, but luckily the seats have an awning above them so even in the sprinkles we weren't getting wet. devon joined us fairly soon after. she didn't miss anything b/c they had the tarp out and a rain delay going on. the expected time of start was going to be 7:40. and it actually did start then. it took them awhile to get the tarp all rolled up, but then the game commenced. and again, the padres took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. i'm guessing that b/c of the rain, the vendors weren't out working b/c the night before they were out in full force. so that meant we had to get our lazy bums up to actually get beer and food. or at least someone did. kyle got me a hot dog and beer, alice got me my next hot dog and beer. i was way too lazy to get up! at one point, alice and devon left together to get food. alice came back without devon and i was wondering where the heck devon was. it took dev a lot longer to come back and when she did - it looked like she had a whole pizza with her! what?! a whole pizza?! turned out to be even better than pizza. probably the world's biggest freaking pretzel any of us had ever seen - and turns out it was the best pretzel ever!! it came with 3 dipping sauces - cinnamon flavored frosting (yum!!!!), mustard (disgusting), and cheese (not nacho cheese, bummer, but instead that easy cheese stuff that they give you in the snack cracker stuff). the pretzel was seriously bigger than dev's head. maybe all of our heads combined. see picture for proof. i think it needs to be dev's fb glamour shot!! anyways, it would rain on and off, but not enough to have another rain delay... until maybe the 6th inning when they started to pull out the tarp, then the raining stopped and they started to roll it up and then roll it back out... and good grief. i can't remember if the ended up pulling it out and covering the field or if they put it back. in any case, at some point devs and alice decided to call it a night and headed home to try and beat what patrick said was a fierce storm coming on radar. he probably didn't use those exact words, but that's what i'm going with... kyle and i decided to stay and went in search of another beer. it wasn't even the 7th yet and there were no stands open. what the heck? so we kept walking down and down and down trying to find some place to sell us something and finally at the bottom found an open stand. only they weren't serving either. we found out that they stopped serving at the 7th inning stretch or 9:20pm - whatever came first. ohhhhhhh, ok. well that makes sense. it isn't often that i go to night games never mind night games that get started so late and go so long. they were pretty long innings once the game did start. once we realized our pursuit of beer was over, we decided to find better seats. we couldn't get too far in the front even though there were plenty of seats because the aisle guys were there checking tickets. but, we were able to sit in the next tier up a few rows back so we were quite closet to the field. we ended up sitting in front of a group of guys who i thought were amusing and kyle did not. they kept going on and on about beer and that if the beer guy came around they were buying the drinks. we kept telling them the 920 crap rule... but they were pretty convinced they could still find some beer. yeah, ok. the 7th inning stretch came and kyle and i sang take me out the ball game at the top of our lungs and then in the bottom of the 8th with the cubs up 6-4, it started lightening and then it POURED. and by poured i mean it looked like a monsoon. awesome! we hadn't been getting wet before b/c we were covered by the awning, but the wind was now carrying in the rain and so we decided the game was over for us. and it was time to run on outta there. and then we got the grand idea to run over to the cubby bear and let the crowd clear and get the few cabs. so we headed to the cubby bear in full running mode and got drenched. but it was fun! and then we had some guy take our pic with the wrigley marquee behind us, soaking wet. and then we ran in for a beer where we were definitely not the only soaking wet cubs fans with this idea. it happened to be karaoke night there and that was great for some amusement. we had some journey, the carrie underwood cheater song by two girls who were horrible!, and some other random anthems being rocked out. it was pretty great. and then it was time to head out... we luckily found a cab right away and kyle dropped me off at home and she continued on her way. it was a completely random, totally fun night! and apparently (i have not verified), the umps called the game not long after we left and the cubbies racked up another win. i'm beginning to think i may be the winning charm....

booo....rain delay to start things off:

holy schnikes!! look at this thing!! it was awesome. cheese, frosting, and mustard (blech)...frosting awesome...cheese woulda been better if it was nacho cheese, but.. best pretzel ever!!

me and kyle moved to much much closer seats:

and then it was pouring and we decided to make a run for it to the cubby bear:

hilarious!! i really enjoy the play-by-play of events, told exactly like a girl and exactly as i'd want to hear them. absolutely nothing about the baseball action itself and i enjoyed that immensely. :)

p.s. the whole time i thought you were with a boy. stupid me. is it kyleee or is her name really kyle? i love boys' names for girls! like mine, sort of.
