katy visits...and fun ensues!

in early april, my old high school friend, katy fb'd me to say she was coming to chicago and that we should all get together while she was there. she is getting her phd in psychology and there was a conference out here that she was required to attend (on her own dime - doesn't that suck?!). she had originally planned to stay with heather, but that really wasn't convenient since heather lives in the suburbs and the conference was downtown. so i suggested she stay with me and she could have the 2nd bedroom. so she took me up on the offer.

katy is a friend from culver and i hadn't seen her since our 5 year reunion... which was 8 years ago... good grief... that makes me feel old! anyways, it had been a very long time since we had talked (we periodically emailed) or seen each other so it was great to reconnect. i picked her up from the belmont blue line stop on wed night (apr 29th) and we headed back to my house. we debated bar or drinks at home and decided on staying at home since it was already close to 10 and she had to be at the conference at 8am the next day. we had 7 years to fill each other in! katy had been living in miami to get her masters and is now in arizona getting her phd. she's been dating a guy off an on for a while now and anyways... we caught up on everything.

the next day, our little group from high school got together for dinner at uncle julio's. heather and her husband, rick, came - though rick technically isn't one of the girls he did go to culver even though he graduated before any of us got there... side story: he and heather met her freshman year of college on the rowing team. so then alice came and met up with us and then katy arrived. laura wasn't able to come in from IN so we missed her, but we had a fun group to reminisce with. we spent a few hours chatting and then it was time to head home.

on friday, i said goodbye to katy b/c alice and i were leaving for the indy mini marathon and wouldn't get home on sat in time to say goodbye. it was such a nice visit... i always love having guests (hint! hint!)
