cherry is my oldest friend. when my parents moved to houston, i was 18 months old. across the street lived a little girl who was about 2. we became the best of friends and would play over at each other's houses every day (or it seemed like it!). my mom loves to the stories of how we would get all dressed up and dance to the nutcracker every year and how we liked to dress up and put 'pretty' make up on our faces. barbie was another great love. but, in the fourth grade, her parents moved to a different neighborhood and while we still got together it wasn't like before. obviously neither of us could drive and instead of walking across the street, we now had to depend on our parents to drop us off. every day just wasn't practical. so over the years, we eventually lost touch... every once in awhile seeing each other or emailing. then, maybe 5 years ago or so a new family moved in next door to my parents and it turns out the woman was somehow related to cherry. this family has two small kids... the ones my mom considers her fake grandkids. we all ended up at a christmas party thrown by the lady next door's mom and it was there that cherry and i really reconnected a few years ago. whenever i'm in houston, we make sure to get together and we email/talk much more frequently. well, on the 20th of june, she married her boyfriend of several years, tim. they actually met on match!
the wedding was held at st john the divine church which is absolutely gorgeous. and big! there must have been close to 300 guests.
just married!
me, mom and dad outside the church:
me and mom. she never ever wears heels and rarely dresses up, but she is here!
the reception was held at the junior league of houston which is very swanky and large (much larger than chicago's facility). it was held in a very large ballroom with a huge band... maybe 10 people playing?! two cakes: traditional white and a go texans football theme cake as the grooms.

then there was the traditional newlywed dance and the daddy daughter dance. i forget what the heck they danced to, but it was so cute! i just remember it being so fun and super cute. i have a terrible memory... then it was dinner time and they had a huge buffet spread: shrimp cocktail, mash potato bar, prime rib station, salad, fruit, chicken tenders, and several other things (again, that memory issue). the food was so good!
cherry & timmy dancing:

me and the bride:
was it the most fun wedding i've been to? no... the only people i knew were the bride, her parents, the groom, and my parents. boy, nothing like having your parents at a wedding to make it fun. my parents are not exactly the party type. so it was a fairly early night for me in terms of weddings and we left around 11ish. it was beautiful, she was gorgeous, and it was a very lovely wedding. i'm so glad i could be there!
