a bunch of us decided that a cubs game couldn't be a more american thing to do on the fourth and so we bought tickets to a roof top venue. they were rather pricey but all of the rooftops are. we got there as it opened and got ourselves some food, beer, and a place to sit. we took over a row of seats and enjoyed the view. at this point, it is drizzly... not enough for an umbrella and not enough to be too annoying for a bit. then it got chillier and my little cardigan wasn't cutting it. and i wanted a hoodie to protect my hair (i didn't want to have to redo it for dev's party!). as becca said, i looked like the unabomber! haha. you couldn't even see my super cute cubs tank b/c it was just too too cold...
in the first inning, the cubs managed to give the crappy brewers 5 runs. yes, 5. it didn't get any better after that as the final score was 11-2. i didn't indulge in the beer as i wasn't feeling well enough and i had a couple hot dogs, but i definitely didn't get my share of the 'free' perks that come with buying a roof top ticket. oh well!

after the game, everyone went back over to trish and john's place (literally right around the corner) and i went back to my place for a nappy nap. then it was time to get ready and head over to dev and patrick's place for a night of bbq/fireworks on the roof top deck.
kyle and i headed over to dev's together and alice got there not long after us. leigh came and joined us to - leigh is a friend of kyle's who i've gotten to know over the last few months. nikolai and christine were already there and so were a few other people. this year, i was not the only one in festive red, white, and blue! yay! since it was chillier than i anticipated, i had to change my outfit idea. that and the white shorts i'd worn to the game b/c my flip flops had flopped and splattered mud on the back of them. sweeeet. so i switched to white jeans. and brought along a sweater which i definitely needed.
we had a ton of yummy yummy food: cheeseburgers (huge and so good!), pasta salad, chips, cookies, these turtle-y things that were so yummy, brownie smores, brownie bites, watermelon & fruit, veggies, and i can't even begin to remember it all! there were also a couple of kegs of beer and then we eventually played the game 'sink the bismark'. i'd never played before, but it wasn't too hard to learn... after a few rounds of the game that in the beginning mostly patrick and nikolai were sinking the ship and doing the drinking... a birthday cake and candles came out for mrs dev. happy big 3-0!!!

after a while, kyle, leigh, alice and i left the party. alice decided to go home and the three of us decided to have one more drink. i only agreed b/c kyle said we could go to a bar within walking distance of my house. so we did: kirkwood. as we were leaving dev's, i got a text from alex saying he wanted to hang out and have a drink or 12. uhh, ok. so i told him... we are heading to kirkwood... come join or not. he said he'd be at murphy's for awhile and to go there to which i said, nooooo, we are going to kirkwood you can join or not. (he did not). and then he says he is on his way home and wants me to come over so we can talk about stuff on his balcony. yeah, no. he tells me that he fucked things up btwn us and that he wanted to chat about that but if i didn't then he's sorry. he said that he'd told me the truth about wanting stability and that he's getting to a good spot in terms of it now... i kept telling him that if he was being sincere and serious then he could call me tomorrow (sunday) and we could talk when he and i were both sober and it wasn't after midnight. he told me he wanted to get together next week as this week he is apparently working the markets for asian clients and this weekend he's headed to ny for a wedding. yeah, ok. so today... do you think he called? yeah, no. i texted him with a yep...that's what i thought...too much vodka last night?? and he says no i was sober. so i wrote ok..were you serious in your texts? or were you just playing games. i've gotten no answer from that so i wrote one last text - so i guess your non answer means you were just playing games last night. whatever. why do guys play such stupid games?!?!!? quit messing with girls' heads.
