adventures in babies r us!

on monday of memorial day weekend, devs and i headed out for a very informative trip to babies r us (with a brunch at corner bakery first). i can now say i know way more than i probably should about cribs, pack n plays, car seats, mattresses, and other assorted baby gear!

we learned about car seats: how the heck do we get this off the base?!?! i know it comes off!!!

aha! figured it out... finally! i'd like to report that two very smart ladies could not figure this part out by ourselves for anything so finally i had to ask a guy with his wife who also happened to have a baby in the carrier detached from the base so i knew they had to know!!! and they did. and we felt (or at least i did) kinda dumb for not being able to figure it out!

i learned: these suckers are heavy without the dang baby! the car seat by itself weighs between 9-10 pounds! devs gunna have some super nice arms hauling around baby girl larkin!! btw, does a purse count as a simulated baby?!
we also learned alllllll about pak n plays! i had no idea that play pens were out... but they are. and pack n plays are all the rage! this one happens to have a sun shield... dev and i thought it'd be funny to go to north ave beach and set up baby and pack n play right there in the middle of all the beer drinking, volleyball playing people... ok, maybe that was just funny to us people who know north ave beach...

we also learned about cribs. they no longer have drop sides. those are unsafe. and there are convertible aaaaand lifetime cribs. now. there is a difference. here's the difference: convertible can become a toddler bed. lifetime can be a toddler bed and then convert in to a whole double bed! that kinda creeps me out a bit... as in... when you're bringing home your gf or bf to your place when you're like 25 and you are all "this is my bed. at one time it was my crib!" i dunno... is it just me?! that's a dang long time to have a crib/bed...

at some point, the store manager found us completely and totally overwhelmed with tons of questions. he was super duper helpful and only when we were in the car did we think we should have taken a picture with him. danggit! i suggested we could park and run through the rain/thunderstorm and go back in to get one... but we decided that might appear "weird". weird?! what?! but it's all in the name of documenting for the blog!! who wouldn't understand that?!

TOTALLY agree on the pack and play thing. i learned that when my friend had her baby last year, i guess "play pen" is not politically correct or something. pack and plays it is!
