my new obsession...

leland, mi... and i've never even been there. i'll explain when i feel better. i promise. as for my fun flu... i am feeling better but still have zero energy. am so so tired. fever is gone. yay. seriously, if you ever get the flu, make sure to call your dr for tamiflu... it seriously has cut my flu down time by a lot. at least i think so.

good guess dev, but nope! it's a little involved and i have to jump in the shower or i'll be late... how do i always run late?!

aren't the photos of the town cute?! they have festivals and old towns and beautiful beaches. they also have a lot of wineries up that way! look beyond the pictures for the story of my obsession!

my newest obsession:

since just about all hope is lost that i will ever be able to have my beloved maine cottage, i have decided that i will have to start my own traditions and have my own place. and i've settled on leland, mi for a number of reasons. one and the obvious: it is a close jaunt from chicago. but the more important reason is that we have a family history there. since my whole family goes back generations to muncie, indiana, the shores of leland, mi were also nearby to them. back in the day, my nana's side of the family went to leland for the summers and all had fabulous 'cottages' there. she spent her summers growing up there just as i spent mine in maine with her. once she got married to my grandfather who was in a different class than her family, they stopped going. mostly because my grandfather felt inferior to her family and like he was never completely accepted. he hated them for that (he hated everyone though). and so, my nana and him started their own summer traditions in kennebunk, maine buying the summer cottage their in the early 60s. since i can't have maine (the odds are extremely slim at this point), i've decided what a wonderful way to be surrounded my nana and the memories of her youth there and what a nice big f you to my grandfather who hated it so much and apparently disliked or had no feelings whatsoever towards his blood family so as to give everything to THAT horrible woman he married 3 months after my beloved nana. so i have it all planned out, when i turn 35 (and thus have access to the trust my gdad and nana established for me) i will buy my cottage in leland. it will, of course, not be of the same caliber as any of the cottages that they ever had at their disposal either in leland or in maine, but i will be able to feel the love of family up there and hopefully be able to impart traditions with my family since my kids (when those should happen along) will not know the happiness of maine, but hopefully leland will be a nice substitute. and although i've never been there, all of the pictures i've seen remind me of the small wonderful town that is kennebunk. and hence, this is why i have an obsession with a place i have never been before!

hmmm, is it b/c you can pass by michigan wine tasting and then go to that island that allows no cars?

I think this is a really cool idea! I love the idea of honoring your family's history in this way! Count me in for hanging out once the cottage is built!
